IT Setup: Copilot / ChatGPT / Claude MCP Integration

Focal's MCP lets you use your Focal client data inside third-party AI tools. Once connected, those tools can ask Focal AI directly instead of you copying information between systems.

What you can do with it

The Focal MCP Server exposes 300+ client data fields (meeting notes, transcripts, extracted data, tasks, CRM details) to the AI tool of your choice. Advisors use it to build presentations and client-ready one-pagers, generate reports across a book of business, run calculations against data already in Focal, and ask questions about a client that get answered from real records.

⚠ Before you connect

Connecting Focal to an external AI tool means your client data leaves Focal. Once it is sent to Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or any other tool, it is governed by that platform's terms, privacy policy, retention settings, and hosting region. Focal has no visibility or control over your client data when sent to other AI tools. Enable this integration at your own risk.

Microsoft Copilot (Copilot Studio)

Microsoft's instructions: Connect your agent to an existing MCP server

  1. In Copilot Studio, open your agent and go to the Tools page.

  2. Select Add a tool, then New tool, then Model Context Protocol.

  3. Enter the server name, description, and URL from the table above.

  4. For authentication, choose OAuth 2.0, then Dynamic Discovery. No other fields are needed.

  5. Create the connection, sign in to Focal, and approve access.

  6. Add the server to your agent and save.

ChatGPT

OpenAI's instructions: Developer mode and MCP apps in ChatGPT

  1. Check your plan. Full MCP support requires ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu. Pro accounts can connect with read and fetch permissions only.

  2. Enable developer mode. On Business, go to Settings > Apps > Advanced settings. On Enterprise or Edu, an admin grants access under Permissions & Roles > Connected Data first, then each user enables it in the same place.

  3. Go to Apps > Create.

  4. Enter the server name, description, and URL.

  5. Select OAuth as the authentication method and complete the Focal sign-in

  6. Click Create. The connector appears as a draft and can then be enabled in chats.

Claude

Pro and Max accounts

  1. Go to Settings > Connectors.

  2. Select Add custom connector.

  3. Enter the server URL.

  4. Leave the OAuth client ID and secret fields under Advanced settings blank.

  5. Click Add, then Connect, and sign in to Focal.

Team and Enterprise accounts

  1. An owner goes to Organization settings > Connectors.

  2. Click Add, hover Custom, and select Web.

  3. Enter the server URL, leave the advanced OAuth fields blank, and click Add.

  4. Each member then connects under Settings > Connectors > Connect.

To use it in a conversation, click the + button, choose Connectors, and toggle FocalMCP on.
